It is no exaggeration to say that most of our life moments are comprised of texts. We use them to communicate in different forms, such as mobile messengers and web/audio-visual media. Although our eyes simply check the ¡°messages,¡± we have experienced being able to read others¡¯ emotions that feel like receiving voice support.
Just by using vowels or consonants, meanings that did not exist before can be created and used. Just like we recognize ¡°¤»¤»¡± as an expression of laughter, so is ¡°ww¡± in Japan. With this in mind, we express, acknowledge, and embrace texts that vary over time. In Western culture, ¡°XX¡± is used in messages or the last part of the mail, which means ¡°embrace love¡± or ¡°kiss.¡± The artist focuses on the meaning of such texts used for loved ones or family to disclose his stories about anxiety and love.
¡®The biggest anxiety is when we suddenly do not exist. As this feeling escalates, we express love, for this may be the last message. We say ¡°love you,¡± hug, or kiss lightly before we leave home. Such light and somewhat meaningless greetings that everyone does come as a message and memory of big love to the artist.¡¯
-A note by the artist-
The meaning of the letter ¡®XX¡¯ enhances his anxiety towards his beloved family and desire to express more of his love. Though his profound intention was to show a love that could not be perfectly captured, his vibrant colors make the audience feel his overflowing love.
- Sending this lovely exhibition to celebrate May, the month of family love and the queen of seasons. -
